About the project

Expansion of Los Magnolios Natural Reserve

Los Magnolios Natural Reserve encompasses an area of 384 hectares (948.8 acres).
With the funds collected on this campaign we are buying El Castillo, a land with 246 hectares (607.8 acres), that is mainly primary, cloudy forest which makes it one of the biggest and best conserved habitats that are left in the region where it is located.
Acquiring El Castillo would allow us to protect this unique, untouched habitat; that will total 630 hectares (1556.7 acres) of protected forest.

Amount to collect with this campaing US$ 10,000

Conservancy plan

The land purchased will be added to Los Magnolios Natural Reserve, and included in the management plan.

Salvamontes has a strategic plan 2020-2025 and long term goals (2030), that include projects that will secure the sustainability of the organization over time and the management, improvement and protection of the habitat and care of the endangered species that inhabit it.

The strategic actions include the development of nature tourism activities in Los Magnolios, the implementation of conservancy initiatives for the species that need it the most; the founding of an investigation center within the nature reserve, and the involvement of the local communities in the conservancy activities.

In the long term plan, Los Magnolios will be part of a biological corridor that will allow the recovering and connectivity of the habitats of those species in most danger in El Alto de Ventanas. This all will happen as a result of the conservancy efforts of Salvamontes along with local communities.

Every donation below US$2.000 that we receive between the 1st of November through December 31st of 2022 will be matched by our ally CONSERVATION ALLIES.
